Florida Football Recruiting 2013: Gators Get Recruiting Help from Early Commits

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Will Muschamp and the Florida Gators closed the 2012 recruiting period with a bang and look to pick up right where they left off.

The traditional SEC powerhouse has already earned 10 commitments for the 2013 class, nine of which are on the ESPNU 150 watch list.

If the Gators want to wrestle back control of the SEC away from the likes of Alabama, LSU and Auburn over in the SEC West, they'll need to continue to recruit well.

One way to do that is to get a boost in recruiting from kids who've already committed, and the Gators are getting just that.

Keanu Neal, a Scout 3-star recruit who recently accepted an invitation to play in the Under Armour All-American Game for this year, has been active in pitching the Gators wherever he goes.

He's not alone in that practice either. Brendan Sonnone of the Orlando Sentinel reports that Neal and fellow Florida commit, Quinton Powell, are 7-on-7 teammates who've actively been campaigning for peers to take interest in the Gators. Powell is also a Scout 3-star recruit and the two were frequently heard making noise, according to Sonnone, on the practice field:

"

The duo started their tag-team courting Saturday, when they traveled to Gainesville together to attend the Gators’ spring practice.

On Sunday, Powell and Neal were again promoting the Gators at the 7on7 practice. Powell sported Florida-themed socks and was quick to talk UF with anyone who would listen.

The not-so-subtle persuading will not cease. Powell and Neal continue to forge a close bond with each other and both say they are 100 percent committed to Florida, repping the Gators wherever they go.

"

Whether it works in Florida's favor remains to be seen, but the Gators' staff can't help but be happy with the excitement, enthusiasm and loyalty two of their commits are already showing.

This program has a lot of work to do before they can truly overtake the current powers presiding in the SEC, but this is one way to help get it done. Having kids in the Under Armour Game is always a plus, and having kids who can't wait to arrive on campus is an even bigger plus.

The way Muschamp closed his first full season in Gainesville was only the start, but things appear to be looking up. It is only a matter of time before The Swamp is once again one of the most dangerous places in the country.

You can catch me talking talking football and throwing seven different kinds of smoke on Twitter.
