Peyton Manning to Broncos: Tim Tebow Will Be Better QB after He Leaves Denver

Brian MaziqueJun 6, 2018

For as mentally tough as Tim Tebow is, there is nothing like having support from those above you. That is something Tebow never had from John Elway. Elway will find a deal, and move Tebow for the best of both parties.

Whether they admit it or not, Elway and Peyton Manning don't want the Tebow distractions. On top of that, I genuinely think Elway's conscience has him committed to dealing Tebow someplace favorable.

Vic Lombardi supports that train of thought:

Elway told me he's trying to do right by Tebow. Appreciates what he's done. I think he'll do his best to help him get back home to Florida

"

After all, Elway referred to Tebow like the family dog the entire time he was the starter, even through the success.

LA Times quoted Elway in December:

"
"

Tim Tebow's not going anywhere. I mean, he's going to be a Bronco and we're going to do everything we can and hopefully he's that guy.

"
"

Good, ole Tebow, I love that dog.

I'm not calling Elway a liar, I understand that was then and this is now. He saw a shinier toy on the shelf. One that was better than the one he had to grow to love, and he went after it.

It's the nature of the business, and he isn't wrong for what he did.

Still, if he's traded, Tebow will be in an environment better suited for success.

When Tebow was given the starter's spot, it felt as though he was getting a shot to pacify the fans. It was almost as if Elway and John Fox expected him to fail.

Once he failed, then they could move on with their plans of building a "real" football team, with a "real" QB.

Well, Tebow led the team on a seven-game win streak, and ultimately backed into an AFC West title. Tebow-mania was in full swing, and it became harder to continue to resist showing outward support.

His true feelings couldn't have been more apparent than during the Manning presser. Whether it was unknowingly or not, he insulted Tebow with this comment:

"

"Tim Tebow's a great kid. If I want someone to marry my daughter, it's him," Elway said. "Tim is a great football player, but with the opportunity that presented itself here, we had to take advantage of that.

"

Oh wow...what a slap in the face. You're a nicer person than you are a football player. Nobody wants to hear that.

Now with Peyton Manning signed, sealed and delivered, the Broncos will trade Tebow.

The great thing for Tebow is that the team that lands him in a trade will already know what they're getting. They will have already bought in, and he should not have to wrestle with a general manager's preconceived notions of what a QB should be.

Once that happens, Tebow can develop in the areas that need improvement, as well as have an offense that is built around what he does best.

It is no secret that Tebow needs to improve his accuracy and fundamentals, especially in the footwork department. But I believe he has the work ethic and attitude to embrace coaching and development.

He has already made significant strides from where he was as a rookie. Many doubted he'd ever have a run like the one he had in 2011. Even fewer gave him a shot to upset the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs.

But he has had success, and underneath that nice guy exterior is a ferocious competitor that is driven by his critics' doubts.

I have learned my lesson about doubting Tebow. He will be a better player with his new team. He'll be stronger mentally, more business savvy with thicker skin, but most importantly, he'll be better supported.
