College Football Recruiting: Ranking the 5 Best Head Coaches Recruits Flock to

Edwin WeathersbyMar 20, 2012

You ever wonder how a certain team or program seems to get the most buzz, interest and talent from recruits? Me too.

There are many factors that play into a prospect's decision, as every program in America has its allures that attract talent. One of those allures that a program has is its head coach. He's the face of the program and has his hand in every facet of the program.

For this read, I'm going to give you five head coaches that attract talent and are the type of head coaches that recruits flock to to play for.

5. Gene Chzik, Auburn

1 of 5

Chizik was the defensive coordinator on The Plains, left for Iowa State then returned back to Auburn as head coach.

He's an Auburn man through and through, and before last cycle, he'd gotten the Tigers two straight top-10 recruiting classes.

Players seem to love the fact that Chizik preaches the word "family" any chance he gets. He's devout about War Eagle, looks after his players on and off the field and runs a close knit program that recruits seem to really dig right now.

4. Urban Meyer, Ohio State

2 of 5

Meyer has returned home to Ohio, where he will be the face of Ohio State football for years to come. Dating back to his days at Florida, he knows how to attract talent.

Meyer is a master recruiter, as he knows how to not only recruit the player but recruit the player's family as well. He has calm demeanor, ensures parents he will take care of their son and is a proven winner, to which players especially love.

Recruits started flocking to him as soon as he signed on with the Buckeyes, as he hauled enough talent to take OSU from the outside the top 25 recruiting class rankings to finish inside the top 10 in 2012.

3. Les Miles, LSU

3 of 5

The Mad Hatter probably is the No.1 player's coach in college football today. Players just love him as he relates to them very well, is a personable guy and always aims to have fun.

The Tigers always find themselves inside the top 10 recruiting rankings because Miles understands how to lock down Louisiana, then venture out around the South.

His interviews are constantly funny, he's got wit and charm and LSU wins a ton of games. Recruits would flock to any coach with that going for hm.

2. Nick Saban, Alabama

4 of 5

Saban is the best coach in the country if you ask me, and he wins games by a combination of great coaching and elite talent.

He's gotten 'Bama a couple No.1 recruiting classes and has lured talent like Julio Jones, Marcell Dareus, Landon Collins, Jesse Williams, Eddie Williams and Trent Richardson to Tuscaloosa.

Recruits flock to Saban because they feel he's the best guy to get them prepared for the NFL. He runs Alabama like an NFL organization, and the atmosphere around the program is a bit more serious and business-like than others.

1. Mack Brown, Texas

5 of 5

I'm going with Brown as No.1 on this list because if a player is from Texas, then more times than not he ends up in Austin because of Mack Brown.

Brown wows parents with wit, charm, a calm demeanor and just a good vibe. Players know he has their back and will be loyal to them, plus he's won numerous games, Big 12 titles and a BCS title.

He's one of the most supremely popular and powerful men in Texas and is the unquestioned face of Texas Longhorns football. In a talent-rich state like Texas, that's a huge deal, to which recruits will flock to in droves.
