Knicks Rumors: Latest Gossip Around New York's New Regime

Ross ReadMar 20, 2012

The New York Knicks have been an up-and-down team all season. They started out the gates slowly only to catch Linsanity, heat up again and then fizzle out. Gone is Mike D'Antoni, who resigned after the team struggled when Carmelo Anthony came back from injury. There was also speculation Anthony and D'Antoni were not getting along with each other

Assistant coach and former Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Woodson has now taken over coaching duties for the duration of the season. He style is more focused on defense and iso plays for his superstar players. The team has responded to a 3-0 start, but where does that leave point guard Jeremy Lin?

According to the New York Post, Woodson favors his veteran players over Jeremy Lin. Woodson is still committed to Lin as the starter for now, but he could lose playing time and even a starting position going forward to Baron Davis.

Woodson has already added former Raptors and Wizards head coach Darrell Walker to his staff. He also brought on Sacramento Kings assistant coach Jim Todd as well. Woodson seems to be getting very comfortable in his new position, but do the Knicks consider him a long-term answer?

According to the New York Post, a source has said Knicks owner James Dolan is interested in former Lakers head coach Phil Jackson. The source said Dolan may begin courting Jackson during the offseason. Jackson will then have to ask himself whether he feels healthy enough to return to coaching and if he has the pieces in place to compete for a championship in New York.

Currently, the Knicks sit in the eighth position in the Eastern Conference Playoffs hunt. They are still three games under .500 and are only a half game in front of the revamped Milwaukee Bucks. The Knicks might be forced to not only make the playoffs, but also have a strong showing, or the team from top to bottom could be broken up.
