Aaron Murray: Heisman Contender Must Stay Focused and Live Dream on the Field

Aaron Murray has the skill, athleticism and drive. Now all the Georgia Bulldogs star needs is the restraint.

There are more Heisman candidates than there are winners. A great many collegiate superstars start every year with claims to the throne of game's best, but only a select few will ever win that coveted trophy.

Aaron Murray is the most interesting candidate as we head towards the 2012 season. He has the arm and the drive to make his mark as a national player of note.

However, he also has the charm of and charisma of a young Joe Namath. The party never stops for the star leader of young men, something that is covered in the website Saturday Down South.

The blog post is dated October 27th, 2011 and is just one instance of Murray cutting loose, something he is well known for.

The QB loves life and that includes mixing it up with friends and fans alike. In this instance, Murray is caught in a picture with a Georgia Tech walk-on wide receiver who is showing the ACC title ring given to Georgia Tech's players after the 2009 season.

Many will give him grief for rocking the Florida State shirt and posing with a Georgia Tech player, but the real issue is the non-chalance with which we find a myriad of these pictures.

This is not to condemn but to challenge a great player that is on the cusp of really delivering on the promise that comes with his talents.

Last year, Murray followed up a fine freshman year with an even more solid sophomore campaign. He completed nearly 60 percent of his passes for 3,149 yards and 35 touchdowns.

His offensive line is coming along, and the poise that comes with a third-year quarterback will make him among the most notable Heisman candidates.

Again, there are far too many candidates to count right now, and they are all vying for position in the NFL draft. Nearly all of them will sacrifice off the field fun for on-the-field glory.

Murray needs to follow suit.

There is no question that he can be a top-10 pick in the draft, be a finalist for the Heisman and bring glory to Georgia, but he has to cut the paradise of co-eds, beer and fraternizing out of his life.
