NFL Draft 2012: Playmakers Who Will Become Instant Fantasy Superstars
The NFL Draft is an important tool for franchises to improve, but it's also something the "fake" owners and managers need to scout as well.
What I'm talking about, of course, is fantasy football. Every year rookies bust onto the scene and can single-handedly win leagues for their managers.
Just look at DeMarco Murray and A.J Green last year.
Or LaGarrette Blount and Mike Williams the year before that. Or Knowshon Moreno and Percy Harvin the year before that. Or, you get the idea.
But who will it be this year?
A lot of the impact from rookies will depend on what team they land with, but it's not too early to start taking guesses.
In this instance, I'm not including quarterbacks because everyone already knows about Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III. They aren't going to come cheap in your drafts.
Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
The general consensus seems to be that Richardson, easily the draft's best running back, will land in Cleveland at pick No. 4.
If he does land with the Browns, it's certainly not the most explosive offense in the world. But if Chris Ogbonnaya can average 4.6 yards per carry, so can Richardson.
Peyton Hillis is now with the Chiefs and Montario Hardesty is always injured. Richardson would immediately step in as the starter and immediately produce.
Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech
Hill wouldn't even have produced good fantasy stats in college, but that's because the Yellow Jackets ran the ball approximately 98.7 percent of the time.
When Hill actually got the ball, he made things happen, as evidenced by his ridiculous 29.3 yards per catch average.
In the NFL, speed kills and Hill proved during the Combine and during his Pro Day that he has better speed than any wide receiver in this draft.
He'll be a home-run threat, and that can be dangerous in fantasy, but there's no question Hill can put up Torrey Smith-like numbers.
David Wilson, RB, Virginia Tech
Not only does Wilson have the speed (and when I say speed, I mean absolutely ridiculous, breakaway speed) and elusiveness to be a good runner with big-play ability, but his pass-catching skills were incredibly impressive during the Combine.
Getting a running back who can be dominating in both the running and passing game is one of the most sought after things in fantasy, and Wilson will be just that.
If he lands in the right situation, don't be surprised if Wilson finishes the season as a Top-15 running back in PPR leagues.
Oh, and he loves America.
