Why Pacquiao's Constant Waffling Dooms Superfight with Floyd Mayweather

Brian MaziqueMar 20, 2012

It is one thing to go back and forth on continuing your career because of an injury. But when an athlete brings God into the mix, it becomes a little goofy. I don't diminish anyone's faith, or relationship with God, but according to Manny Pacquiao, his conundrum shouldn't leave any wiggle room.

So, God told him it was OK to beat up just one more fighter, and then you have his blessings to hang up the gloves? What is holding him back from retiring before the Tim Bradley fight, since he is so sure God disapproves of his career?

Is it the payday promised from a Superfight with Mayweather?

This is even more ridiculous, and a direct quote from Pacquiao in the article:

"

“I will not stay long in boxing because He (God) said: ‘You have done enough. You have made yourself famous but this is harmful,’”

"

So, let me get this straight.

God has told you that the sport is harmful, yet he will allow you in good conscious to participate in a few more fights. The actual number is unknown.

I'm not a religion professor or a faith philosopher, but this doesn't seem to make any sense. Either his thought process is completely out of whack, or there are other factors involved.

Either way, this delirious waffling is killing any chances of seeing the Superfight ever take place. The prospects have already been crippled by the fighters' ages and impending jail sentence. Now Pacquiao is in a fight with his boxing demons, or some other anti-fighting variable.

Interest in this fight has already waned, and the longer it takes to get done, the lower the interest will be. If Mayweather or Pacquiao look bad in their next bouts versus Miguel Cotto and Tim Bradley respectively, interest will all but disappear.

Manny's indecision has almost painted him in as poor a public perception as Mayweather. A year ago the thought of that seemed impossible.

It's time Manny made a decision.

Is it going to be boxing and a potential Superfight with Mayweather, or will it be political and religious aspirations?

He needs to choose, boxing fans are tired of waiting.
