FC Barcelona: Eric Abidal and Fabrice Muamba Deserve Our Support

Eric Abidal sent a message of support to Fabrice Muamba from his Facebook account. The story was reported on the Goal website.

Fabrice Muamba was the player from the Bolton Wanderers who collapsed during his teams' match against the Tottenham Hotspur on March 17, 2012. The result was the cancellation of the remaining match.

Muamba is currently in the intensive care unit in a London hospital. The latest reports from Bolton (with h/t to Goal) has Muamba recognizing his family and breathing without assistance.

Abidal is expected to have a liver transplant surgery for which no date has been set. It is refreshing to read information concerning athletes and supporters in world football uniting when there is a problem.

The outpouring of support of Abidal towards Muamba deserves praise. The support of those who love sports (as well as those who are not sports fans) deserve praise when it comes to the health issues of Muamba and Abidal.

It is the hope that Muamba and Abidal are able to recover fully from their health problems. It is also hoped that a lesson is learned from what transpired.

The lesson is that athletes are humans and have the same health issues like the rest of us.
