Tim Tebow Trade Rumors: 4 Reasons Jaguars and Tebow Are Perfect Fit

Brian MaziqueJun 7, 2018

The Jacksonville Jaguars should have drafted Tim Tebow in 2010, but they didn't.

Now they must take advantage of this new opportunity to acquire the man that was made to be a Jag.

Multiple outlets report that the Broncos will try to trade Tebow once the deal with Manning is finalized. He should have no shortage of suitors. He'll never be a Manning or a Tom Brady, but in the right system, Tebow could flourish as a change-of-pace quarterback or hybrid player.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to show interest.

"

There are four simple reasons Tebow should be a Jaguar.

Based on these, Shahid Khan and Gene Smith should already have contacted John Elway about dealing for Tebow.

Blaine Gabbert Has Not Solidified the Position

The Jaguars drafted Gabbert to be their starting QB and face of the franchise in 2011.

It is too early to say what type of career Gabbert will have, but he did nothing to excite Jaguars' fans or front office personnel as a rookie.

He completed only 51 percent of his passes, threw 12 TD to 11 INT, and had a modest QB rating of 64 for the season.

At 22, he still has time to develop, but the Jags haven't made the playoffs since 2007, and have only been in the postseason twice this century.

This city and organization needs some success ASAP.

The organization is ripe for a change to a quarterback that can spark the team. Tim Tebow proved last year in Denver that he could have that effect on a roster.

Philosophy Matches

The Jaguars are a running team. Only three teams ran it more often than Jacksonville last season.

Any team that puts Tebow under center won't have a pass-happy philosophy. His optimal destination would be a team with a power running game and strong defense.

Jacksonville has both of those qualities already.

The team's defense was Top 10 in the NFL against the run and pass in 2011. The Jags rushed for just under 2000 yards as a team last season, and with Tebow, that number would increase

Tebow can thrive in an offense that allows him to use his rushing ability, as well as handing it to an elite back like Maurice Jones-Drew.

They still need weapons on the outside, like receivers and tight ends who can make plays after the catch. But, this could be a wild card team with a few additions besides Tebow.

Florida Connection

No one person's name screams Florida like Tebow....OK maybe that horrible rapper Flo-Rida has him beat in that category, but Tebow is right up there.

He is a legend in the state, and he is still a presence locally.

Recently, Tebow was in Jacksonville for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of a Timmy's Playroom in the Dreams Come True Building.

He is still beloved there, and Tebow would get every opportunity to succeed in front of fans that adore him.

The Organization Needs His Popularity

The Jags were one of nine teams to draw less than 500,000 fans at home through their games in 2011.

Jacksonville routinely is among the league's lowest in attendance. Putting a hometown favorite, who happens to be the most polarizing figure in the sports under center will certainly boost those numbers.

When Tebow succeeds and does anything Tebow-esque, he is must-see-TV. The Jaguars haven't had a player like that in their franchise's history.

This makes too much sense for the Jags, they must go hard after Tebow.
