Draft Impact: Tennessee Titans Sign Kamerion Wimbley to 5-Year Contract
While you were sipping your morning coffee, the Titans were filling one of the biggest holes in their defense. Adam Caplan from the Sideline View and several other outlets had the scoop:
"The Tennessee Titans and Kamerion Wimbley have agreed to terms on a 5-year, $35 million deal with DE/OLB Kamerion Wimbley.
"
Caplan also reported on his Twitter feed that the deal will pay Wimbley $13.5 million guaranteed, including $11.5 million in the first year. He opined that the team will still look for a DE early in the draft, and I have to agree. 2010 first-round pick Derrick Morgan is the only other end on the roster with any promise, and he wasn't effective until this past year after tearing his ACL in his rookie season.
I projected Illinois DE/OLB Whitney Mercilus to the Titans in my latest mock, and I still think that pick could hold, although Wisconsin C/OG Peter Konz or Georgia OG/OT Cordy Glenn might be worth a longer look.
If the Titans are happy with Morgan's development, or they can bring back either Dave Ball or William Hayes in free agency, the latter picks become more logical. Cincinnati at No. 21 and Cleveland at No. 22 could pounce on Mercilus if he gets past the Titans, although he could be gone well before the Titans are on the board.
