Kobe Bryant: Los Angeles Lakers Star Must Embrace Ramon Sessions to Save Season
There have been some poor shooting nights in the month of March for Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, but none worse then the 3-of-20 performance he put up Sunday in a 103-99 loss to the Utah Jazz.
Currently the 28-17 Lakers lead the Pacific Division and hold the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, but for them to stay there or possibly improve, Bryant needs to do one thing.
Trust new point guard Ramon Sessions.
Sessions isn't Bryant's longtime buddy Derek Fisher, but he's the upgrade at the position the Lakers desperately needed. In improving the position, Bryant got his wish and the team held onto both Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum.
Now he, being the Lakers leader, needs to embrace Sessions and allow him to drive the car.
It will take Sessions some time to adjust to not only his new teammates, but also to the terminology the Lakers use in their offense. Bryant needs to embrace that and be patient with the new acquisition.
While Steve Blake is in the starting lineup for now, there's no doubting Sessions is the better player. Once he gets acclimated in Los Angeles and comfortable in his new surroundings, Mike Brown is eventually going to hand him the keys to the offense.
Sessions is a solid pick-and-roll guard who sees the floor very well. He also is a very good passer who can get the right people the ball in the right spots. One thing Sessions will do is utilize the Lakers' bigs, and Bynum and Gasol will benefit greatly from having Sessions around.
Bryant is going to have to be cool with that and he will. It's not like he's not going to get his shots. Kobe's going to get his 20 to 25 shots per games without problem.
If everything goes according to plan, though, Bryant won't be forcing up as many shots anymore. He must trust his new point guard is going to get him the ball within the flow of the Lakers offense.
If that transition goes well, the Lakers will become a major factor in the Western Conference race for the remainder of the season.
