NFL Draft 2012: 5 Teams That Must Draft First-Round Receivers
Wide receivers have defined this offseason.
The Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers have made big splashes in free agency, signing guys like Pierre Garcon and Randy Moss.
But, there are still a number of teams that need to get wide receivers in order to be successful in 2012.
Let's take a quick look at five of those teams now.
Cleveland Browns
The Browns need a complete overhaul on offense. They need a quarterback, a running back and several wide receivers.
They have two first-round picks this year, so it'd be great for the city of Cleveland if they could draft Trent Richardson and a wide receiver.
Someone like Alshon Jeffery might be available with pick No. 22, so the Browns should pick him and never look back.
Jacksonville Jaguars
When you are starting Mike Thomas and Jarett Dillard at wide receiver, your offense is in serious trouble.
Maurice Jones-Drew can't carry this offense by himself, so they should probably draft a big play wide receiver in the first round.
Oh, and they should trade for Tim Tebow too, but that's a different story.
St. Louis Rams
The Rams missed out on Mario Manningham and might not be able to re-sign Brandon Lloyd, so they need to get someone via the draft.
If they don't start surrounding Sam Bradford with some weapons, his development is going to be negatively affected.
Getting Justin Blackmon would be a great draft pick.
San Diego Chargers
After losing Vincent Jackson to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason, the Chargers need to replenish at the wideout position.
Philip Rivers can make any receiver look good, but he should still have better options than Patrick Crayton.
With Antonio Gates slowing down, it's time to start drafting some better wide receivers to open up the field for him more easily.
New England Patriots
The Patriots were hampered by the lack of a deep threat receiver this season.
Teams were able to crowd the line and stop Wes Welker from hurting them.
They still need to figure out how to guard tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, but the Pats can make that even harder by getting a big-play receiver.
