2012 MLB Predictions: 3 Teams Bound to Underperform
Last season, the Cincinnati Reds underperformed all year. And obviously, the Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves underperformed down the stretch, losing their wild card spots.
This year promises to have more teams under perform, whether it's because they over performed last season or they were afflicted by the injury bug.
Let's take a look at three teams that are likely to fall way short of their expectations in 2012.

10 Scorching MLB Takes 🌶️

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
1. Philadelphia Phillies
Chase Utley's knee might not be fully healed and Ryan Howard will most likely be starting the season on the DL.
Even with Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels in the rotation, this team might not be strong enough to repeat as NL East champions.
They need someone to step up on offense, but it's unclear who that will be.
Shane Victorino and Jimmy Rollins can't carry this team by themselves, so someone like Hunter Pence is going to have to have a huge year to keep this team competitive.
2. Miami Marlins
The Marlins threw a bunch of money around this offseason, signing Jose Reyes, Mark Buerhle and Heath Bell.
However, they're still in a very tough division where every team (except the Mets) has a chance to win.
Plus, Jose Reyes and Josh Johnson don't exactly have a good track record when it comes to staying healthy.
If either of them gets hurt for a significant period of time or Hanley Ramirez is ineffective again, it'll be a long year down in Miami.
3. Tampa Bay Rays
Don't expect another fantastic playoff run from the Rays this season.
There's no way Kyle Farnsworth will be as effective at the closer position this year, based on his career history.
Plus, this team is still very weak at designated hitter, shortstop and catcher.
They are going to rely too heavily on the young arms in their rotation, which is a recipe for inconsistency and fatigue.
