Alabama Football Recruiting: Biggest Needs for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Nick Saban didn't coach the Alabama Crimson Tide to back-to-back BCS Championships, but he did coach them to two titles in three years.

If that trend holds suit, the 2013 class will be the one that provides the push for another National Championship.

The Tide are certainly good enough to pull it off this year, though, and after adding the No. 1 recruiting class in the country this February, it certainly wouldn't be a shock.

That said, this program loses players every year early to the NFL, and so, Saban never leaves the shelves bare.

Quarterback

Saban is always on the lookout for another quarterback, and according to TideSports on Rivals, he wants to land two in this class. Not just any two either; he's out for talent.

Rivals says Max Browne, Malik Zaire, Mitch Trubisky and Connor Mitch all have offers from the Tide and that they are also looking at Parker Adamson.

Browne is one of the top ranked players in the nation—No. 8 overall on Rivals—and Zaire is No. 136 and Mitch No. 236 overall.

Saban's starting quarterback, A.J. McCarron, is only going to be a sophomore with one highly-recruited Philip Sims, a redshirt sophomore, backing him up. They only have three QBs on the roster, though (freshman Philip Ely is the third).

Defensive Back

Mark Barron, Dre Kirkpatrick and De'Quan Minzie, all starters for the title team last year, are heading for the field on Sunday already, and after this year, they'll say goodbye to Robert Lester as well.

Saban is going out of his way to land as many players as he can in 2013 to make sure he has no shortage of talent in his secondary.

He added one prize piece in 2012 with safety Landon Collins; the coach will finish it all off next year.

They've already earned the commitment of Artie Burns, who's also a track star, and have a ton of offers out.

Offensive Line

The Tide are going to say goodbye to D.J. Fluker in one year's time and will also graduate Barrett Jones. The Kouandjio brothers are there, but Saban knows he's a lot more than that to make the tackle spot work deep.

Alabama has already earned the commitment of Bradley Bozeman and Grant Hill, and they'll continue on trying to protect whoever is lining up under center and in the backfield for the next few years.

Along with two new potential quarterbacks coming in, the Tide have already earned the commitment of two running backs.

Making sure the line is rebuilt is extremely important.

Saban and the Tide already have nine commitments for 2013, according to ESPN, and we know how quickly they can close on anyone when they get going.
