Let the Peyton Manning to Denver Broncos Fallout Begin!

Aaron NaglerJun 7, 2018

Now that we have a reported resolution of the Peyton Manning free-agency tour, let’s take a look at where all the parties left out in the could go from here.

Tim Tebow

ESPN has reported that the Broncos will try to trade the young quarterback, but they admit that if no one comes calling, they will have no problem releasing him outright.

It’s hard to see him going anywhere but Jacksonville or Miami, but both clubs have said recently that they would not be interested. Of course, that was when it was a theoretical possibility. Now, it’s a realistic option. We’ll see.

Alex Smith

Supposedly upset with the Niners' dalliance with Manning, Smith took a meeting with the Miami Dolphins this past weekend. Things progressed to the point where the Dolphins drew up parameters for a deal.

Now that Manning won’t be going to San Francisco, will Smith go back, forgive and forget with the 49ers? Don’t forget, Smith turned down a three-year, $24 million deal from the Niners very recently. This situation bears watching for both Niners and Dolphins fans.

Matt Moore

Moore ended the 2011 season playing more than respectable football as the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins. For his trouble he has been rewarded by Dolphins management by being made to watch his job being offered to Peyton Manning, Matt Flynn and Smith.

At this point, the Dolphins are probably best served by going into 2012 with Moore as their starter. But the offer to Smith suggests they have no intention of doing what is best for their football team.

Colin Kaepernick

The 49ers' second-round pick last year was drafted to eventually take over the starting quarterback job in San Francisco. If Smith does indeed end up signing with the Dolphins, the Kaepernick Era would probably get underway a bit earlier than the Niners had originally planned.

That would actually not be a bad thing, as 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh has shown he can work well grooming young quarterbacks, keeping reads and progressions simple while leaning on a devastating running game and a top-five defense.

Obviously, there is a lot to play out here, but with Manning having chosen his team, these situations all bear watching over the coming days and possibly hours.
