NFL Trade Speculation: Top 5 Landing Spots for Tim Tebow

Dustin HullMar 19, 2012

With the reports of the Denver Broncos snagging Peyton Manning, the future of Tim Tebow has become uncertain.

While his play had its ups and downs last season, Tebow was clutch at the end of games and helped the Broncos earn a playoff appearance.

But now he will be replaced by a far superior quarterback, leaving him no other choice than to move on to a different franchise.

The Broncos are expected to trade Tebow, seeing as the likelihood of him wanting to play another position is next-to-none.

But who would want Tebow, and why?

Jersey and ticket sails only go so far. It would have to be about more than publicity.

For whatever reason it may be, here are five teams that may consider trading for Tebow.

5. Staying in Denver

1 of 5

First off, let it be known that Denver may not even decide to trade Tebow. But after doing him such a disservice, they should.

The Broncos could decide to let Tebow be tutored by Manning, but the feeling that Tebow is the "quarterback of the future" seems far-fetched.

John Elway found his way out of having to put up with a non-conventional quarterback for another year. So if Tebow stays, he likely will not see too many snaps, no matter what position he plays.

The thought that he may be a short-yardage runner or wildcat quarterback is still a logical possibility in Denver.

With that said, would Manning even want to come off the field during a strong offensive drive? Don't count on it.

So it seems it would be better for both Denver and Tebow to move on completely. But there's still a chance Denver doesn't deal him away, keeping him under ropes in the process.

4. New England Patriots

Say what? The only thing worse than being behind Peyton Manning on the depth chart is the reality of being behind Tom Brady.

Though Tebow would have no chance to earn the majority of the snaps in New England, there are other ways the Patriots could use the young quarterback.

Tebow would be reunited with Josh McDaniels, the coach that drafted him, and also could be part of the next master plan by Bill Belichick.

Though he would be in a far-reduced role, the brains on the Pats' coaching staff could come up with formations to bring out Tebow's skills.

Though Tebow may request to go to a team on which he has a chance to start, he could flourish in New England's offense, even if he doesn't get nearly as many snaps.

3. San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers couldn't pull off the signing of Peyton Manning, but they could still have a shot at the guy he's replacing.

The 49ers could trade for Tebow, especially if they cannot re-sign Alex Smith, the starting quarterback who helped the team earn a berth in the NFC Championship this past season.

If Smith does indeed jump to the Miami Dolphins, then the door is open for Tebow coming to San Francisco.

He wouldn't exactly be head coach Jim Harbaugh's cup of tea, but the coach would be more than glad to take the challenge of improving the throwing skills of a great athlete.

Though the offense in San Francisco would be very run-oriented, it already was when Smith was under center. Frank Gore and Tebow would make the 49ers an even tougher team to physically stop.

And for those reasons, Tebow Time could still be moving to the West Coast.

2. Miami Dolphins

Fresh off of whiffing on Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn, the Miami Dolphins have now turned their focus to 49ers quarterback Alex Smith.

But if Smith decides to return to San Francisco now that Manning is not headed there, Miami could look to deal for Tebow.

It would be a broad difference from Smith or Aaron Rodgers, but new Head Coach Joe Philbin could make it work with Tebow. Miami also would be saved from the uncertainty of trying to pick up a QB in the draft.

And even more incentive for Owner Stephen Ross would be the fact that Tebow is one of the most recognizable people in all of sports, and seats would surely be filled.

Though the Miami fit may seem great, the fact that Philbin hasn't worked with a quarterback any where close to the style of Tebow makes the South Beach landing still a bit unsuitable.

1. Jacksonville Jaguars

5 of 5

At times during last season, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert seemed intimidated and shaky.

The Jaguars may or may not be committed to Gabbert, but it's clear Tebow's best destination is Jacksonville.

The timidness of Gabbert isn't even in Tebow's dictionary when it comes to oncoming rushing and running in the open field.

Overall, Tebow would be the better option at quarterback, and would also supply even more power to a run game that already includes Maurice Jones-Drew, one of the best tailbacks in the league.

But on top of everything, Tebow returning to his hometown would be a reality topped by no other. The seats may finally be packed, and the franchise would likely even be saved from being shipped to Los Angeles.

Tim Tebow, quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars. It's seemed like the right spot for him all along.
