College Football Recruiting 2013: Top Recruit Robert Nkemdiche to Commit May 18

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Waiting until signing day, or possibly even after, isn't in the plans for college football's top recruit this year.

Unlike many before him, Robert Nkemdiche is set to announce his commitment nine months before National Signing Day even arrives on May 18th after his spring game, according to Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Ranked the No. 1 recruit in the country by both Rivals and Scout, Nkemdiche is one of the most college-ready prospects we've seen in some time.

Standing 6'4", 268 pounds, he recorded 19 sacks in each of the last two seasons at defensive end and also plays fullback for Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia.

The news of his impending announcement comes on the heels of a visit to LSU that Nkemdiche reportedly rated a "10," and the soon-to-be senior was quoted (via Carvell) saying:

"

"I’m ready to commit because I know where I want to go. I feel like I’ve seen all the places I needed to see, and talked to all the coaches everywhere. I don’t feel any need to wait any later than the spring."

"

His top five schools, according to Carvell and "in no particular order," are LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss and Clemson.

It wouldn't be surprising to see him choose any of those programs, but his glowing words for LSU (see Carvell) may mean trouble for the Tigers' SEC rivals in Tuscaloosa, Athens and Oxford.

Clemson certainly cannot be ruled out after the success they've had with gifted athletes along the defensive line in recent years either.

High school spring games down south certainly earn plenty of attention, but Nkemdiche just guaranteed Grayson's to be the most heavily anticipated.

Whichever school Nkemdiche chooses will be getting a truly special prospect. He's ready to step on the field immediately, and he's going to be scary-good before you know it.

The real test will be holding his commitment for the next nine months.
