NCAA Tournament 2012 Schedule: Matchups We Want to See in the Elite Eight

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

The Sweet 16 may not be completely set, but it's never too early to start looking forward to the Elite Eight matchups we want to see.

Indiana versus Kentucky and Michigan State versus Louisville are intriguing games to talk about, sure, but those matchups are already set. Now you need to know who to root for in those games.

If you don't have an established allegiance, it's smart to root for who will make the best games. Here's a look at who will make up for the best Elite Eight games.

Kentucky vs. Baylor

Charles Barkley keeps making the joke about how only an NBA team team could beat Kentucky right now. When you look at the Wildcats' roster, it's hard to argue that fact.

Anthony Davis is the clear top pick in next year's draft, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is a top five pick and even Terrence Jones could go in the lottery.

Throw in Marquis Teague, Doron Lamb, Darius Miller and even Kyle Wiltjer, and this team is downright scary.

But against Baylor, Barkley would get close to his wish, as Baylor at least looks like an NBA team. The Bears have a ton of long, very athletic players with extremely high ceilings.

They would match up beautifully with Kentucky.

North Carolina vs. North Carolina State

The chances of this happening took a severe hit today after it was announced UNC point guard Kendall Marshall has a fractured right wrist.

Still though, what a storyline it would be if UNC and NC State matched up for a fourth time this season. UNC-Duke gets the credit for the top rivalry, and rightfully so, but this would go a long way in putting the Wolfpack back on the map.

What's more, NC State is playing its best basketball of the year right now. After getting better in each progressive matchup against the Heels, this one would likely be very close.

Syracuse vs. Florida State

This wouldn't be the most exciting game in the world, but it would be interesting to see two of the best zones in the country go up against each other.

If the Orange and Seminoles end up playing each other, it would turn into a three-point contest. There might be 50 shots launched from deep, and you can't tell me that wouldn't be fun to watch.
