Matt Flynn Reportedly Signs 3-Year Deal With Seahawks

Eric BallJun 4, 2018

Another part of the QB carrousel has been figured out.

Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network has reported that the Seattle Seahawks have signed free agent Matt Flynn to a three-year contract:

"

Matt Flynn has agreed to terms w/Seattle on a 3yr contract worth up to $26M w/$10M grntd. Not bad at all #freeagency

This is a very favorable deal for the Seahawks, as he will essentially be getting the same amount of money as Kevin Kolb according to La Canfora:

"

For Flynn, the $10M guaranteed is comparable to the $10M signing bonus Kevin Kolb got a year ago

The signing means a couple of things:

The Seahawks Gave a Player with 132 Career Pass Attempts $10 Million Guaranteed

They are putting a lot of faith in his one start. Sure, he threw for 480 yards and six TDs against the Detroit Lions in a meaningless game, but what will happen now that he’s the man?

The potential is there, but there is now a lot of pressure on a guy with two career NFL starts.

The Tarvaris Jackson Era Is Over

It was a short stay for Jackson as the starter. He went a respectable 7-8, but never showed the sort of potential that would make you think he was capable of winning a Super Bowl.

Seattle Really Likes Backup QBs From the Green Bay Packers

It was only 11 years ago when the Seahawks signed Matt Hasselbeck when he was backing up Brett Favre. One Super Bowl appearance and 10 years later, they are trying their luck with this method once again.

Seahawks Can Win the NFC West

With Alex Smith potentially leaving the San Francisco 49ers, the race is wide open.

The Seahawks quietly had one of the best defenses in the league in 2011 and will be retaining essentially everybody.

Factor that in with the new contract giving to Marshawn Lynch and a healthy Sidney Rice, and you have one incredibly talented team.
