NFL Trade Rumors: New York Jets Shopping Overrated Bart Scott Is Right Idea

Justin WeltonJun 7, 2018

Bart Scott is overrated.

If this was three years ago, I would be all in for paying Scott $4.2 million dollars because of his leadership and production in the interior of the New York Jets defense. But there is a reason why his role diminished last season with the Jets: He's replaceable.

Apparently, the Jets think the same thing. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, the Jets are attempting to shop Scott.

New York has the right idea.

Scott is atrocious in coverage situations, and David Harris, arguably, is better in running situations.

Scott's numbers have dropped significantly from his first season in New York. He went from 92 tackles to 81 to 66 in 2011.

He is 31 years of age too.

Do you want to pay Scott that amount of money for a limited role?

I think it's time to move on.

Scott fits perfectly with Rex Ryan and his bravado. However, Ryan toned it down when discussing 2012, and it proved that he may move on from his ridiculous Super Bowl guarantees.

When one's mouth goes, another should follow. Scott sometimes does more harm than good with his trash talk. I don't mind it generally, but you better be able to back it up.

Ryan, Scott and the Jets haven't been able to secure a trip to the Super Bowl. It's time to end the talking and do something on the field.

Ryan stopped talking for the Jets (so far), and now Scott needs to stop too.

Other than recognition and leadership from the interior of the defense, New York doesn't lose much if Scott isn't on the roster. In fact, they may even improve. Scott is awful in coverage, diminishing in his run defense and does more harm than good with his mouth.

At this point of his career, he is overrated. It's time to move on.
