Matt Flynn Rumors: Dolphins Must Get Flynn and Stay Away from Alex Smith
With San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith visiting the Miami Dolphins Saturday, many Dolphins fans are doubting that they'll get their long-anticipated man behind center in Matt Flynn.
For the sake of Miami's future, this is hopefully just a coy to lower Flynn's asking price for a big contract. He hopes to make his decision in the next few days, according to Pro Football Talk.
Flynn has been one of the biggest QB targets for some time and is now finally on the market. The Dolphins need to quit their chess match with Smith and Flynn so they get the right man, now that the Seahawks are contenders for the former LSU star as well.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
One of Flynn's starting quarterback auditions came in 2011's regular season finale against the Detroit Lions in a 45-41 win. He shocked teams across the league with 480 passing yards and six touchdowns in the comeback win.
He's shown the raw intangibles and impressive accuracy to make it at a franchise that has been starving for a quarterback for what seems like decades. He's no Peyton Manning, but he's the next best option and much better than Smith.
With the Manning sweepstakes altering the plans of many NFL teams, Smith is shopping himself around so he's not the odd man out in this free agency quarterback carousel.
Smith, a former No. 1 overall pick, lost his starting job numerous times in San Francisco before taking his team to the NFC championship game last season. Despite his rocky career, head coach John Harbaugh has always praised Smith as the man who can take the 49ers back to the promised land.
Smith had a good comeback year last season but didn't demonstrate that he was much more than a system quarterback who thrived off short passes and a stout running game. That's not the way Miami will be playing next year, with explosive threats on offense to stretch the field.
Miami needs a playmaker at quarterback that can wow the fans and run up the scoreboard. If the Dolphins want to halt their run of mediocrity, they'll give Flynn what he wants and reel him in long term.
