NFL Free-Agent Signings: Brandon Lloyd Will Thrive with New England Patriots

Justin WeltonJun 7, 2018

Other than Chad Ochocinco and his inability to learn the New England Patriots' offense, what wide receiver doesn't thrive with hall-of-fame quarterback Tom Brady?

Brandon Lloyd, who has had an inconsistent career, will thrive in New England.

All Brady does is record ridiculous numbers. Brady passed for a career-high 5,235 yards in 2011, leading the Patriots to the Super Bowl.

The Pats, as a team, passed the ball 612 times compared to 438 rushing attempts. Wes Welker led the team in receptions with 122, Rob Gronkowski recorded 90 and Aaron Hernandez caught 79.

There are plenty of opportunities to catch passes in this system, unless you're Ochocinco. Lloyd will fit perfectly with what the Patriots want to do offensively.

Lloyd has been an up-and-down player in his nine-year NFL career. His career-high in receptions was 77 in 2010 with Kyle Orton, but he has only managed 311 receptions in his career. If you take those 77 away, Lloyd has averaged 30 per season—he didn't participate in every game each year, however.

There's something about playing in New England that gets players excited to prove they can play at a high level. Maybe it's the fact that failing isn't an option under Bill Belichick; the Patriots are winners. Nobody on that team is accustomed to losing on a consistent basis.

Before arriving at camp, Lloyd will work vigorously to be in the best shape of his life. He'll be ready to learn the playbook, understand the scheme and will understand his role on a championship-caliber team.

Lloyd to the Patriots makes perfect sense.
