Patrick ClarkeJun 7, 2018

The No. 11-seeded North Carolina State Wolfpack will face off against the No. 3-seeded Georgetown Hoyas in Midwest region action Sunday afternoon to determine which program earns a berth in the NCAA tournament's second weekend.

The Wolfpack knocked off San Diego State in the first round, while the Hoyas downed an upset-minded Belmont team thanks to some stingy defense.

Listen: Raleigh: WRAL - FM 101.5; Washington, DC: ESPN 980

Betting Line

Georgetown -4 over NC State, according to covers.com. No team boasts a distinctive home-court advantage in this third-round matchup, and given that Georgetown was so much stronger than NC State during the regular season, it's no surprise why the Hoyas are the favorites. That being said, the Wolfpack will be hard to beat, and the Hoyas will struggle to cover the spread.

The over/under on this game is 132, according to covers.com. NC State is one of the better scoring teams in the nation, however, and they posted 79 on Friday in their win over the Aztecs. Georgetown scored 74 against the Bruins and won't have too much trouble finding points on Sunday.

Key Injuries

No significant injuries for either team.

What's at Stake?

A spot in the Sweet 16 is on the line in Columbus on Sunday afternoon when the Wolfpack and Hoyas tip off the sixth consecutive day of single-elimination NCAA tournament basketball with what promises to be a classic third-round matchup.

The winner will advance to play the winner of No. 2 Kansas vs. No. 10 Purdue Friday in St. Louis and will be four wins away from being named 2012 national champions.

What They're Saying

NC State guard Alex Johnson reveals what's great about the Wolfpack's squad this season and what was key for them in upending the No. 6-seeded San Diego State Aztecs on Friday:

"

That's what's so good about our team, we don't have just one go-to guy, we have multiple go-to guys. - via newsobserver.com

"

Georgetown doesn't feel any pressure to keep winning in this year's tourney, according to head coach John Thompson III:

"Our guys turn on the TV and seems like most of the world is picking us to lose today. And so you plant that seed [of doubt]...But this tournament is not about ‘let’s get that monkey off your back.’ It’s not. We’re going to see if we can win another one Sunday.” - via The Washington Post

Most Important Player to Watch: Lorenzo Brown, NC State Wolfpack

NC State guard Lorenzo Brown is among the top point guards in the nation, and he proved that on Friday against San Diego State. Brown stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, two steals and a block. Brown also played all 40 minutes in Friday's second-round win, nailing five of his six free-throw attempts and five of his nine field-goal attempts.

Key Matchup: NC State's Big 3 vs. Georgetown's Big 3

The Georgetown trio of Jayson Clark, Hollis Thompson and Henry Sims will need to out-shine that of NC State's talented core of C.J. Leslie, Lorenzo Brown and Scott Wood. Each player is a vital part to their team's success and with the emerging play of junior forward Richard Howell, it seems the Wolfpack have the advantage in this key matchup.

Prediction

NC State has the firepower to compete with Georgetown regardless of the Hoyas' level of defensive intensity. No team will benefit from an overwhelming home crowd, either, and that will have the fans in attendance cheering for No. 11-seeded underdog NC State, who have won five of their last six games overall.

No. 11 NC State 71, Georgetown 65
