NFL Rumors: Matt Flynn Must Seize Chance to Be Dolphins' Day-One Starter

Jeff ChaseMay 31, 2018

Free agent quarterback Matt Flynn, who has been the Green Bay Packers backup to Aaron Rodgers, will be making a career-changing decision this offseason, but if he wants to start right away, he is best to choose the Miami Dolphins over the Seattle Seahawks.

According to the Palm Beach Post's Ben Volin, the Seahawks have made an offer to Flynn, but they also are not keen on handing him the keys to the car.

"

So now it's time for Seattle to wring its hands over how Flynn's visit with the Dolphins goes, right? Well go ahead if you want, but the indications I've gotten of the team's proposal to Flynn is the Seahawks are interested, but not to the point that they'd hand out a contract similar to what Kevin Kolb got from Arizona last year or name Flynn the starter ahead of Tarvaris Jackson without a competition.

The Dolphins have clearly moved on from former starter Chad Henne and if the team were to sign their new head coach's backup quarterback from the past few seasons, it seems clear that the Joe Philbin and Flynn relationship would mean he is the team's starter from day one.

That should be enough for Flynn to make South Beach his next stop. Considering that the Seahawks are not set on him being their designated starter, there just may be more money on the table with the Dolphins.

Even if there isn't, there at least stands to be a greater opportunity.

The Dolphins have Matt Moore locked in for the 2012 season at $2.5 million, despite the way he played in relief of Henne. However, it still seems like Flynn is the better option at this point if only because of his relationship with Philbin.

The team brought him in for his success with the Packers offense, and what better way to continue to see that potential production than bringing in a QB who has played in that system since 2008.

Flynn has been a backup all these years, so there is no reason to think that he would want to sit behind another QB. He is ready to be a starter.
