March Madness 2012: 5 Matchups We're Looking Forward to Today
If today is anything like the set of games these teams played in on Friday, we're in for a treat.
There's eight games today for the third round, with all the winners earning a trip to the Sweet 16.
Today, games will start at 12:15 EDT with the NC State versus Georgetown matchup, and they will conclude with the Cincinnati versus Florida State contest at 9:40 PM.
These are the top five games that we're looking forward to the most today.
NC State vs. Georgetown—12:15 PM EDT on CBS
1 of 5This game doesn't have the glitz and glamor, but we're looking forward to this game because it's the first game of the day and will kick of the day's coverage of games.
This is a classic ACC versus Big East matchup, and to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if either team came away with the victory.
Both teams took care of business pretty easily on Friday and have the personnel to get it done.
Look for this game to be close.
Norfolk State vs. Florida—6:10 PM EDT on TNT
2 of 5The first darling of the tourney, Norfolk State, will be taking on the Florida Gators at 6:10 PM today.
We will desperately be watching to see if Norfolk State can keep the slippers on and dance their way into the Sweet 16.
Norfolk State held their own against a pesky Missouri squad, and they will need another solid outing today against Florida's tough backcourt.
This game will have us on the edge of our seats from start to finish to see if a No. 15 seed can actually reach the Sweet 16.
Lehigh vs. Xavier—7:45 PM EDT on TruTV
3 of 5If Norfolk State can't advance, don't worry, there's another No. 15 seed that has a chance.
After Lehigh's improbable upset over Duke on Friday, they will take on 10th-seeded Xavier today.
I honestly think Lehigh can pull this game out, as Xavier is nowhere near the level that Duke was, and advance to Atlanta for a Sweet 16 matchup on Friday.
This could be another epic game, as the anticipation of a No. 15 seed moving on to the second weekend is historic.
Ohio vs. South Florida—7:10 PM EDT on TBS
4 of 5Another Cinderella matchup will take place tonight, as one Cinderella will definitely advance since they're playing each other.
Almost everyone's brackets didn't give Ohio or South Florida a chance to be playing this game with one of them advancing to St. Louis for a Sweet 16 game.
This game definitely doesn't have much glitz or glamor and, to be honest, wouldn't get any TV time during the regular season, but with one of them having a chance to be in the Sweet 16, it's a definite must-watch.
Cincinnati vs. Florida State—9:40 PM EDT on TBS
5 of 5As far as talent and even teams go, this game may be the best of the day. They saved the best for last I guess.
Both teams are extremely talented and come in with huge momentum.
Cincinnati reached the Big East conference championship game and handled Texas with ease on Friday, while Florida State dominated the end of the regular season and went on to win the ACC Conference Championship.
The 'Noles barely squeaked by St. Bonaventure on Friday, and if they don't play better, they could get knocked off tonight.
Most people had Florida State going to the Final Four, so this could be huge.
Expect this game to come down to the wire.
