Wisconsin Badgers: Former AD John Chadima Responds to Sexual Assault Allegations

The Wisconsin Badgers have been saddled with troubling news that outweighs any NCAA tournament score or seeding. Former associate athletic director John Chadima has reportedly been accused of sexual assault, and has since responded. 

ESPN reports Chadima was suspended and subsequently resigned in December after allegations of sexual assault surfaced. The allegations referenced a pre-Rose Bowl party. 

Since that time, Chadima has responded that he is seeking help, specifically for his alcohol use. 

Here is a portion of the ESPN report:

Chadima was suspended and resigned in January after a male student employee accused him of sexual assault at a pre-Rose Bowl party in December. Friday's report details similar allegations from two more people -- a former Wisconsin football player and another former male student worker.

Interim chancellor David Ward says the report reinforces his belief that suspending Chadima was proper.

"

The allegations were news to current Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez and football coach Bret Bielema, who both issued that they never saw Chadima engage in anything improper. 

Don Walker of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel released portions of a statement that Chadima supplied via his lawyer, Charles Giesen. Here are portions of that statement:

Throughout this ordeal, the countless messages of support and encouragement from family, friends and former colleagues during this most trying time in my life have been overwhelming.

The words have fueled my commitment to seek help through counseling, in particular for alcohol, stress management and especially faith based guidance.

"

Giesen then added in the statement the following: 

"

[A]after an exhaustive investigation the interim chancellor's committee concluded there were not any other allegations of sexual impropriety or abuse of authority by John Chadima.

It is regrettable that the university has given the weight it did to these anonymous allegations. 

"

The proud Badgers program now must deal with a subject that has become far too prevalent at high-level institutions.
