Champions League Draw: Power Ranking All 4 Quarterfinal Matchups

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

The draw for the Champions League quarterfinals was not exactly what fans were expecting, but it does give a lot of clubs not often in the spotlight a chance to shine against the big dogs.

Everyone knows who the favorites to win are—Barcelona and Real Madrid. Underestimating other clubs in this round of the event would be foolish, because Inter Milan shocked Barca two years ago in the semifinals before defeating Bayern Munich in the finals.

Upsets will happen, and we will be here to break it all down. For now, here is our power ranking of all the quarterfinal round matches for the Champions League.

No. 4: APOEL vs. Real Madrid

Real Madrid should have no problems rolling over APOEL in this round. The talent is so far apart in this one that it shouldn't even be played. Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo will basically be having practice out there, which will be fun for the fans to see.

Playing without Gustavo Manduca—who is currently serving a suspension—is going to cripple APOEL's offense. He is the most dynamic scorer on the club. When you take him away, there is not a lot of firepower on the roster.

No. 3: Chelsea vs. Benfica

Chelsea appears to be peaking at the right time, though there are still reasons to be concerned. It took a miracle comeback against Napoli for the Blues to make it to this stage.

On talent alone, Benfica shouldn't defeat Chelsea. Nicolas Gaitan is a star in the making, but overall, there is not enough to keep up with the Blues. This club has been playing well lately, so don't underestimate this squad.

No. 2: Marseille vs. Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich is firing on all cylinders right now, after destroying Basel 7-0 in the second leg of the Round of 16. Arjen Robben and Mario Gomez have found their mojo, and the rest of the club has followed their lead.

Steve Mandanda's absence in the first leg of the quarterfinals could end up being the difference for a Marseille club that had success against Inter Milan.

No. 1: AC Milan vs. Barcelona

Even though there are not a lot of reasons to expect Barcelona to have problems with AC Milan in this round, Milan was able to play the powerful Barca club to a draw during group play.

Barcelona is the overwhelming favorite, now that we have moved into the latter stages of the Champions League, thanks to the star power on the roster.

The one advantage that Milan can take advantage of is Barca's lack of depth. If it can keep Lionel Messi and the offensive firepower that Barcelona has in check, things will get very interesting.
