101 Years Of Nonsense
It began five minutes after the Cubs were eliminated from the playoffs and will continue throughout the 2009 season.
Fans and media will continue to remind players and coaches that it has been 101 years since the Cubs won their last World Championship.
Guess what? Who cares! I don't care, and you the Cub fan shouldn't care.
Unless you're old and gray, there's no reason to get caught up in the 101 years of losing. The past is the past.
I'm all for fans and media questioning current management and players, but what I can't understand is a 21-year old Cubs fan demanding a championship because it's been a 101 years. Sorry, but if your're 21 years old you've pretty much lived through good baseball on the north side. Try talking to your parents who grew up watching some of the worst Cubs teams of all time.
Unfortunately, when the Cubs caravan kicks off later today players and coaches will once again be reminded that it's been 101 years. That will also be the popular conversation during this weekends Cubs convention.
As Cub fans, we should settle for nothing less then a world championship. Yet, we should also realize that our players and organization have nothing to do with the past 101 years.
As a 30 year old who has watched Cubs baseball for 25-years, I have always tried to follow my own advise.
"Losers live in the past, dreamers live in the future, and realists live in the present. "
Remember that quote when you grab the microphone at the 2009 Cubs Convention.
