NFL Free Agency: Recapping Day 3

Jason HenryJun 7, 2018

Which teams got better on day three and which teams overspent? There is always a free agent who is signed to an overpriced deal. I believe that we may have a few of those this season, but that result has yet to be reached.

Day three of NFL free agency saw a number of solid deals go down. Some teams addressed key needs, see the Dallas Cowboys, and others went for big ticket items.

One of the most interesting aspects of free agency is the uniform change. For the first time in over a decade, we will see Peyton Manning without a horseshoe on the side of his helmet. An oddity that will not slip past any fan of the NFL.

So as we watch our brackets crash and burn, lets also take a peek at the latest key free-agent signings.

Eddie Royal, Signed by Chargers – Royal was signed by the Chargers on Thursday to a three-year deal. Royal had a breakout rookie season, but seemed to tail off after that. He totaled nine touchdowns in four years in Denver.

Kevin Boss, Signed by Kansas City – Boss has bounced around the past couple of seasons, but he inked a $9 million deal with the Chiefs on Thursday. He goes to K.C. with running back Peyton Hillis.

As things stand on paper, the Chiefs should have a pretty formidable offense in 2012.

Mario Williams, Signed with Bills – Williams was the second most notable free agent of 2012, coming behind Peyton Manning. On Thursday, he signed a $96 million contract with the Bills.

$50 million of his money is guaranteed, so Williams was able to parlay his sack success into a rich NFL deal with the Bills.

Steve Hutchinson, Signed with Titans – Hutchinson is an 11-year veteran and one of the best guards in the league. He signed a deal with the Titans today as he may possibly protect quarterback Peyton Manning in the future.

Brandon Meriweather, Signed with Redskins – The Redskins picked up a former Patriot in Brandon Meriweather as he signed a two-year contract with the team. He was a Bear last year and will look for a mini-career revival in D.C.

Steve Slaton, Signed with Dolphins – Slaton stays in South Beach to run with Reggie Bush. The former Houston Texan will probably want a larger role in the offense.

He’s a pretty good back and team’s will be forced to game plan for him and Bush.
