Manchester United: 5 Players Destined for Old Trafford

Dusan LucicJun 2, 2018

Every year brings a whole bunch of transfer rumours connected to Manchester United. And this year is no different.

With Manchester United slowly closing in on yet another league title, more and more players are being linked to Old Trafford.

Of course not all of the rumours are true, but let's take a look at the latest players who have been linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford.

Granit Xhaka, FC Basel

FC Basel have already lost the battle to keep Xherdan Shaqiri, and Granit Xhaka seems to be next in the line for a summer move.

Xhaka,19 years old, would come cheap compared to the others on the list, as his release clause is in the region of €10 million.

The Swiss prodigy impressed Sir Alex when their sides met in Champions League, and it is believed that Xhaka could be an alternative for Sneijder.

The Red Devils had been linked to Xhaka during the January transfer window, but the move never materialised.

Nevertheless, a summer deal could be agreed.

Mauricio Isla, Udinese

The right back position in Manchester United is still a problem and needs to be resolved soon.

It is apparent that neither Smalling nor Jones are true right backs, while Rafael and Fabio, still only 21, are not the players they were expected to be.

Mauricio Isla is a fantastic utility man—he can play in the centre, on the right of the midfield as well as in the right back position. Isla is yet to be tested in other positions, but he would fit in instantly with the English football due to his versatility.

The highly sought Chilean wouldn't cost much and he would be a great signing for the Red Devils. Udinese will undoubtedly have a lot of problems trying to keep him in Italy.

Nuri Sahin, Real Madrid

Manchester United are reportedly chasing the Real Madrid midfielder.

Sahin joined Los Blancos just last summer, but injuries and tough competition for the place in the starting XI kept him out of play. The creative midfielder has made only five appearances for Real Madrid since arriving to the Spanish capital.

Jose Mourinho might be willing to sell him as he appears to be surplus to requirements in Madrid.

If the Red Devils fail in their quest to sign Wesley Sneijder or Luka Modric, Sahin would certainly be a great addition.

Eden Hazard, Lille OSC

According to The Telegraph sir Alex Ferguson is ready to make a move for the Belgian international in the summer. Ferguson was also spotted scouting the player in Lille's 2-1 defeat to Lyon.

United have had a lot of problems in the midfield with Paul Scholes returning from retirement to fill in, but it's obvious he is not a long term solution. Although he wouldn't come cheap, Hazard would be a perfect signing.

Hazard would definitely add a lot of creativity, speed and technical ability to the team.

Man Utd will face stiff competition from Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham for the Belgian youngster.

Mario Gotze, Borussia Dortmund

The Borussia Dortmund star is currently one of the most wanted players in the world football and no surprise, Manchester United are reportedly interested.

The German prodigy, only 19 years old, mainly plays as an attacking midfielder, and is considered to be one of the hottest up-and-coming players.

Sir Alex started making a team for the future, as he is nearing his retirement and there's no one better than Gotze for the future.

The youngster stated in an interview that he is happy in Dortmund, but a summer move cannot be ruled out. United will have to splash out no less than €40 million for Gotze, which could prove to be a genuine problem.
