NFL Draft 2012: Johnson, Loiseau, and Three More Shocking Late-Round Picks
The NFL Draft is still the best way to build a football team. Injuries to key players always open the door for those late round picks to shine and become a star. Every year, there are a handful of guys to take full advantage of the situation and turn it into a quality career.
This draft will be no exception. There will be late round players who will shock everybody and become stars. Here are five guys who could do just that.
OLB/DE Delano Johnson, Bowie State
1 of 5Even though Delano Johnson comes from a small school there is nothing small about the pass rusher. He comes in at 6'4'' and 270 lbs. Johnson is wowing scouts in workouts with his high energy and athleticism.
He will make his mark initially on special teams, but will eventually become a pass rushing specialist in the NFL—and a very good one at that.
ILB Shawn Loiseau, Merrimack
2 of 5Shawn Loiseau is not that big. He is only 6'0'' and 240 lbs. However, what he lacks in size he makes up for in a hard-nosed aggressive style.
He impressed people with his play at the East-West Shrine Game and will be drafted late because of that. He's similar to Zach Thomas, another small middle linebacker who made an impact and enjoyed a long career.
WR Aaron Dobson, Marshall
3 of 5Aaron Dobson is a big play receiver. At 6'2'' and 205 lbs., he has the size to battle with cornerbacks and get down the field to make the kind of big plays he did at Marshall.
Dobson had 12 touchdowns last season to go with his 49 receptions. He consistently runs his 40s in the 4' 40"s. He can be a "stretch the field" kind of player in the NFL and make a big name for himself after being drafted in the late rounds.
RB Tauren Poole, Tennessee
4 of 5Tauren Poole had a rough season due to injures. He's healthy now, and has shown teams just that in the off-season workouts.
Last season, he only had 693 yards, but back in 2010, he totaled 1,034 yards and showed great power and burst. He will be a late pick, but in the right situation, he could see significant playing time and turn into a quality running back for years to come.
WR Derek Moye, Penn State
5 of 5Derek Moye had a quiet season last year. He only had 40 receptions and three touchdowns due to inconstant play at the quarterback position. However, his size at 6'4'' and 209lbs impresses people and he ran in the low 4'40"s at the combine and pro day.
He has the ability to really stretch the field at the next level. In a pass-happy league, there will not only be a home for Moye; he will succeed.
