Peyton Hills Agrees to Contract With Kansas City Chiefs

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

The Kansas City Chiefs have found a guy to share the load with Jamaal Charles.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Peyton Hillis has agreed to terms on a deal that will send him to the AFC West:

"

Turns out that former Browns RB Peyton Hillis signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Chiefs.

The 26-year-old has a lot to prove.

A year after rushing for 1,177 yards and 11 TDs while receiving the Madden cover for his efforts, Hillis had a brutal 2011 with the Cleveland Browns.

He went through multiple agents and injuries to finish with just 587 yards and three TDs.

Now, he gets a fresh start with a team that has been one of the best rushing offenses in the league for the past two seasons. While Hillis won’t be the starter, assuming Charles is able to return from a torn ACL, there will be plenty of carries for the fifth-year pro.

Only five teams carried the ball more often in 2011, a year after leading the league in attempts. It’s a run-first offense that is predicated on running through the tackles.

At 6'2" and 250 lbs., Hillis is not getting paid for his speed. He is a punishing back who can break multiple tackles and get the first down on a third-and-one. He won’t have to worry about wearing down now that he’s only a part-time back.

He is a terrific compliment to the speed of Charles, and the tandem should make the Chiefs one of the top-five rushing teams in the league yet again.

With Kyle Orton off to the Dallas Cowboys, Matt Cassel looks to be the starter once again and will have the benefit of one of the best running games in the entire NFL.
