NFL Draft 2012: Riley Reiff and Unsexy Players Teams Will Fall in Love With

Timothy RappJun 7, 2018

There are sexy prospects, and then there are the unsexy-but-sure-to-be-solid prospects that every NFL team needs.

Robert Griffin III is a sexy prospect. Justin Blackmon is a sexy prospect.

Frankly, I like to think I'm a sexy prospect, at least with the ladies. With the NFL, not so much.

But who are these less-than-sexy-but-reliable prospects NFL teams will happily snag in the first round?

I'm glad you asked. I've identified a few so you can look smart when the NFL draft rolls around and you're all ready to identify players about to be drafted who your friends have never heard of.

Oh, and ladies, please, one at a time.

Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa

Reiff is the best right tackle on the board, and I believe he'll be scooped up by the Dolphins with the eighth pick in the first round.

Offensive linemen aren't sexy by their very nature—they are rather large, scary individuals—but selecting a right tackle in the top 10 of the draft is particularly unsexy.

It's also the smart move for the Dolphins because it fills a huge need and Reiff is a stud.

David DeCastro, OG, Stanford

Another offensive lineman who won't titillate a fanbase but will be an anchor on the offensive line for years to come, DeCastro is the best guard prospect in this year's draft.

I would look for him to be taken somewhere mid-first round, perhaps to the Dallas Cowboys, who could seriously use an upgrade at guard.

Dont'a Hightower, MLB, Alabama

Luke Kuechly of Boston College is the sexier middle linebacker prospect, but Hightower is a force in the middle and an excellent run-stopper who was a beast on Alabama's incredible defense this past year.

He may drop into the end of the first round or even early second in a weak linebacker class, but believe me, he'll make one team very, very happy.

Devon Still, DT, Penn State

In a deep defensive line class, and with Dontari Poe of Memphis blowing up at the NFL Scouting Combine, Still has been forgotten about in the shuffle—at least he has to fans.

But Still met with 22 different teams at the combine and finished 2011 with 4.5 sacks and 17 tackles for loss, impressive numbers for a defensive tackle.

Still has a lot of upside, and teams will be getting excited about adding him if the draft nears.

Even if fans don't think he's particularly sexy.
