NIT 2012 Bracket: Predicting Which No.1 Seeds Will Roll Their Bracket

Andrew KulhaJun 5, 2018

Unlike the NCAA tournament, the clear favorites to win the NIT tournament have to be the No.1 seeds.

These are bubble teams that barely missed the NCAA tournament, and had to go to the NIT as a consolation.

Frankly, what I'm trying to say is, these No. 1 seeds are head and shoulders above the rest of the field.

That being said, I'm not expecting each of them to make it to the "final four" and roll to a No.1 vs. No.1 NIT Championship Game.

You never know in these tournaments—something crazy always happens.

So, with that in mind I'll give a 50-percent chance of them making it to the "fearsome foursome' or whatever the NIT calls it.

Which two No.1 seeds do I see running their regions?

Washington Huskies:

Frankly, the Huskies may have gotten screwed out of the NCAA tournament. They finished the year with a 21-10 record overall and first in the Pac-12, but got bounced out of the Pac-12 tournament with a 86-84 loss to Oregon State.

Led by freshman guard Tony Wroten and his 16.7 points, five rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, the Huskies have an offense that's ranked 34th in the nation, scoring 75.2 points per game.

They are also ranked an impressive fifth in rebounds, grabbing 40.3 boards per game.

Nobody will be able to stop the Huskies in their segment of the bracket.

Note: the Huskies beat Texas-Arlington 82-72 in Round 1.

Arizona Wildcats:

I'm really invested in this Arizona team after watching them barely lose the Pac-12 Championship Game to a talented Colorado squad.

Arizona's main strength is three-point shooting, and they have the ability to put up a ton of points.

They have great perimeter and fast break play from their guards, but senior forward Jesse Perry—12.1 points,7.6 rebounds and 1.3 assist per game—is a beast down low.

Add in the senior leadership and scoring of star player Kyle Fogg, and this is a team that wont be stopped in the NIT.
