Pau Gasol Trade Rumors: Why Bulls Have No Chance to Land L.A. Star

Maxwell OgdenMay 31, 2018

According to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Bulls are the Pau Gasol to the Bulls?" href="http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketball/nba/lakers/la-sp-lakers-fyi-20120314,0,4833653.story?track=rss&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+latimes%2Fsports%2Fbasketball%2Fnba%2Flakers+%28Lakers+Now%29" target="_self">latest team interested in landing Pau Gasol. Unfortunately for Chicago, that just isn't going to happen.

In order to land Gasol, the Bulls would need to supply the Lakers with a power forward to replace the veteran Spaniard. Considering LA turned down Carlos Boozer's "bloated contract," the Bulls seem to be short on luck.

However, for those hoping for a Gasol-to-Chicago swap, Bresnahan did offer a glimpse of hope:

"

The Lakers countered by saying they would consider receiving at least two first-round picks, center Joakim Noah and another player believed to be Watson, according to a person familiar with the situation.

"

That being said, Bresnahan reports that "neither team liked what the other proposed and the talks ended." While optimism would suggest that the deal could still happen, the chances of such are slim to none.

This coincides with a report by ESPN's Marc Stein, where Stein claimed that the Lakers have limited interest in Chicago's players. Such is evident by the Lakers' consideration of a deal that would land them two quality players and two draft picks.

In other words, this deal isn't going to happen.

With offers that include a potential point guard of the future and draft picks on the table, it's hard to imagine the Lakers would take an underwhelming trade that doesn't save them cap space. After all, that's what T.J. McAloon reports Mitch Kupchak is asking for.
