Detroit Lions fans are going to be seeing a lot more Megatron in the coming years.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Lions and Calvin Johnson have agreed to a seven-year contract extension that will keep the superstar receiver with the team through the 2019 season.

"

In a quarterback-driven league, the two biggest contracts in NFL history have gone to wide receivers.

"

Calvin Johnsn's contract is the richest deal ever handed out in the NFL, exceeding the $120 million deal given to Larry Fitzgerald.

Johnson proved last season that he is worth every penny the Lions are paying him. Already regarded as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL before the 2011 season, Johnson moved right to the top of that list in 2012. The two-time Pro Bowl selection finished the year with 96 catches, 1,681 yards and 16 touchdowns to lead the franchise to its first playoff appearance since 1999.

After years of rebuilding, the Lions are proving that they are going to be a force in the NFC North for a long time to come.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford flourished last season thanks in large part to Johnson. The Lions have one of the best quarterback-receiver duos in the NFL, and this is the first step towards keeping them together for a long time.
