NFL Draft 2012: Latest Updates on Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III Saga

Wes ODonnellMar 14, 2012

The quarterback carousel in the NFL continues to go round and round. Where will it stop? Why the draft of course.

While it remains to be seen where Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn—and possibly Kevin Kolb or Tim Tebow or Colt McCoy—play next season, we know where Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III will be.

Unless the Indianapolis Colts completely lose their minds and opt for RGIII, Luck will be their starting quarterback and Griffin will go to the Washington Redskins.

Like in most drafts, the most important position takes precedent on draft day.

As for the latest at Nos. 1 and 2?

Andrew Luck and the Colts

Indianapolis did their "presumed" QB a favor by re-signing Reggie Wayne. Many believed Wayne would wait to see what Peyton manning did (though not everyone thought that), but he wound up staying in Indianapolis.

It was a bit of a surprise, but Andrew Luck should be very excited that he has a No. 1 receiver he can trust in his rookie season. Cam Newton and Andy Dalton can certainly attest to how important it is, as can Blaine Gabbert for that matter, although he learned the hard way.

Luck also signed a deal with Nike, as reported by the company's Twitter account two days ago.

Nike has also taken over the rights to all NFL equipment, so Luck is off to a good start in his NFL career without even stepping foot on the field yet.

Robert Griffin III and the Redskins

RGIII also got some much needed help, although the Redskins (like usual) overpaid for it.

Washington has already signed Pierre Garcon to a five-year deal as well as wide receiver Josh Morgan (via Adam Schefter):

"

Now Redskins on verge of signing 49ers WR Josh Morgan, too, to go along with Pierre Garcon..

They are expected to cut veteran Santana Moss after June 1st, though.

Garcon is important because the Redskins don't have a lot of top draft picks to work with over the next two-to-three years. They have some young, undeveloped talent but needed a threat that RGIII could trust.

Conclusion

Both the Colts and Redskins have a lot more work to do even after they select their respective quarterbacks. Again, if insanity takes hold and the Colts draft RG3, then everything said for the two QBs outside of Luck's Nike deal (RGIII's with Adidas) still applies.

We have about six weeks until the NFL draft, and anything is possible, but Luck and RGIII will be the first two players off the board and that isn't going to change.
