Peyton Manning Rumors: 5 Reasons Seattle Seahawks Would Be Wise to Pass on QB

Madison GuernseyJun 7, 2018

When future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning was released from the Colts" target="_blank">Indianapolis Colts, he became the most sought-after free agent in recent memory.

There are several teams on the list of possible destinations for Manning, and the Seattle Seahawks appear to be doing all they can to land him.

However, the future of the franchise may be better off in someone else's hands.

No Chance

According to the Denver Post, Manning's list is down to two teams, four at the most. The Seahawks need to start focusing their attention elsewhere on players who have more interest in signing with them.

There are many viable free agents on the market, and it's doubtful Manning ever had much interest in moving out West.

36 Years Old

Manning is by no means a spring chicken. The 14-year vet turns 36 years old in less than two weeks, and though he is undoubtedly one of the greatest football players of all time, he only has a few good years left.

The Seahawks need to improve for not only the next two seasons, but many years down the road with a young QB, which Manning is not.

Four Neck Procedures

According to SI.com, Manning has had four procedures on his neck. One of them wasn't originally reported, but now that the real number has come out, questions may surround Manning's recovery and future performance.

A 36-year-old recovering from neck surgery doesn't sound too appealing.

Mario Williams

4 of 5

The best defensive free agent on the market is former Houston Texans defensive end and No. 1 overall pick Mario Williams.

"Super Mario" played in just five games last season due to injury, yet still racked up five sacks and forced a fumble.

He'll want a huge contract, but the Seahawks have enough cap space with close to $30 million available, and Seattle's pass rush is in need of an upgrade.

Matt Flynn

5 of 5

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Matt Flynn is on the free-agent market, and is the most practical and realistic replacement for Tarvaris Jackson at QB.

Yes, he's only thrown 132 passes, but he's been learning from one of the best in the league in Aaron Rodgers. His stellar performance against the Lions wasn't a fluke.

If Seattle can get him for less than the Arizona Cardinals paid for Kevin Kolb, he's the right fit for the Seahawks.
