Tim Tebow Rumors: What Would Broncos QB Cost in Trade Package?

Jason HenryJun 7, 2018

If the Broncos win the Peyton Manning sweepstakes, who will win the Tim Tebow consolation prize? All signs point to Tebow being released or traded if Manning heads to the Mile High City, but what team would want him?

Maybe the better question is this: What will the Broncos want for Tebow?

Tebow led Denver to the playoffs last season and is seen as a winner by many around the league—that many being NFL pundits and fans, not necessarily the players.

So if an NFL team—say, the Jacksonville Jaguars—decided to walk the road to get to Tebow, how what will that team have to give the Broncos? Is it a player and a pick, or just maybe a fourth-rounder?

According to a report in The Sporting News, the Broncos have plans to trade Tebow if they sign Manning. If the Jags decide to call, I believe a low-round pick will suffice for Tebow. The pick would probably be in the fourth round, maybe even as low as the sixth.

The Jags have a quarterback in Blaine Gabbert, but he barely completed 50 percent of his passes in 2011, throwing for just 2,214 yards. But while Gabbert may not represent the future, I’m not sure if Tebow does either.

Tebow had just over a 46 percent completion percentage in 2011 and did not top the 2,000 passing yard threshold. As the NFL continues to move toward passers who dominate the friendly skies with seasons of 4,500-yard passing displays, I’m not sure if Tebow is up for that type of play on the field.

But besides his play, a team looking to garner the services of Tebow shouldn’t have give up to much for him. If an NFL franchise truly believes that he represents their best chance of having a bright future, then I would suggest trading for him and putting up a fourth-round pick.

Anything higher is uncivilized.
