Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
According to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports, Garcon has been offered $42.5 million over five years.
Considering that Garcon's best season came in 2011 with 947 yards on 70 receptions and six touchdowns, that's quite a stretch for someone who has never made a Pro Bowl.
While with the Colts, Garcon never made more than $555,000 in a year, so this a a major leap by comparison.
Washington definitely gave up too much to address a needed area, especially when the Redskins could have upgraded via the draft in the mid rounds. The receiver position is rather deep this year, but it appears our nation's capital is getting a veteran that's been, at best, a No. 2 receiver in Circle City.
Grade: C-
Washington could have gotten Garcon for less and if not, then simply look to the draft or elsewhere in free agency.
Now, there's no doubt that Garcon improves the Redskins offense, as he's arguably better than anyone other than Santana Moss right now. However, he's only started to develop as a NFL receiver and is not in that upper-echelon of targets just yet.
Maybe if Garcon were to really explode in 2012, then restructuring his initial offer to $42.5 million would have been more sensible. Because, if Garcon ends up not producing, that's a lot of dough going all for naught.
