Lakers Rumors: Bulls Will Need a Miracle to Pry Pau Gasol from Lakers

The Chicago Bulls are making a late push to get Pau Gasol, but it would take a miracle at this point according to multiple reports. 

ESPN's Marc Stein reports the Chicago Bulls have a very clear target headed into the trade deadline, and it's none other than the most talked about big man right now, Pau Gasol.

The Chicago Bulls are exploring avenues to acquire Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol before Thursday's trade deadline, according to sources close to the situation.

The Bulls have long hoped to wedge themselves into the trade running for Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard, but sources told ESPN.com that Howard's well-chronicled lack of interest in a trade to Chicago has prompted the Bulls to switch their focus to Gasol in advance of Thursday's 3 p.m. deadline.

Listen, kids. It's important to have dreams, but make them realistic. 

The Bulls have no doubt offered up Carlos Boozer as if the swap would be anything but hilarious to Lakers brass. 

The key here is that another team must be brought in. Not only that, but a star player would have to feature to assuage the Lakers from giving up one of the best and most versatile forwards in the league. 

Stein continues:

Sources say that the Lakers, however, have limited interest in the players Chicago would be offering, starting with Bulls forward Carlos Boozer.

"

If all of that weren't enough, the Bulls are now working against a shrinking clock as the deadline draws nearer at a frantic pace. 

There are just too many elements that have to drop into line perfectly for the Lakers to send Gasol to Chicago. 

Chicago Bulls writer K.C. Johnson agreed in this assessment via tweet.

The Lakers need an upgrade at point guard and at small forward, but they have to bring back another All-Star-caliber player if they are considering life without Gasol. 

The Spanish giant may have lost a step, but it has been a negligible drop off. He still gives the Lakers a second seven-footer in the paint to play defense, something that is a rarity in the league. 

He can also bring out defenses and spread the floor with his mid-range shot. 

The Lakers have a rare gem in Gasol and can sit back and enjoy the Bulls doing the heavy lifting in finding the perfect trade that will deliver a wealth of talent to L.A. 

As none exist, the Lakers can finally get back to savoring the days they have left with a pair of giants in the middle.
