2012 NFL Free Agents: Power Ranking Best Landing Spots for Vincent Jackson

Tim DanielsJun 1, 2018

Vincent Jackson will be one of the most coveted free agents available when the market officially opens on Tuesday afternoon. Plenty of teams are hoping to upgrade their passing attacks during the offseason, and Jackson is the best wide receiver out there.

There will be no shortage of suitors, that's the only guarantee. Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports lists at least five teams that could get involved in the sweepstakes, including the Washington Redskins and Jackson's current team, the, and the Washington Redskins. Let's examine the best potential landing spots for the dynamic wideout.

1. Chicago Bears

The Bears have plenty of serviceable receivers on the roster, but none of them should be playing the role of a top target. Jackson's arrival would push everybody down one spot on the depth chart, allowing them to play a role more suitable to their ability.

Jay Cutler takes a lot of heat for his play. While sometimes the criticism is warranted, it's important to remember he hasn't had a go-to man. Jackson should help space the secondary, leaving much larger passing lanes for Cutler.

Chicago appears ready to make a big splash in free agency to remain competitive in the improving NFC North. Jackson would be a tremendous way to start.

2. Buffalo Bills

After a red-hot start to last season, Buffalo's offense cooled off in a major way in the second half. One of the main reasons was the lack of a sidekick for Stevie Johnson, who began to draw double teams. The Bills didn't have anybody to stretch the field.

Johnson and Jackson would give Ryan Fitzpatrick two reliable playmakers. When you add in Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller, the Bills would have all the makings of an offense that could sustain an entire season of success instead of simply being a flash in the pan.

Opening up the checkbook has never been one of Bills owner Ralph Wilson's best traits, but sooner or later Buffalo will need to make some moves to end a playoff drought that's lasted more than a decade

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Last year at this time the Buccaneers were coming off a breakout season. They seemed to be one of the NFL's best young teams and a playoff contender. Instead, quarterback Josh Freeman struggled mightily, leading to a disappointing season.

Arrelious Benn has developed much more slowly than the team would like, which means pursuing a proven veteran like Jackson is a better option. He would also give Freeman a much-needed boost of confidence to help him rebound from a trying year.

Tampa Bay still has plenty of talented players to build around, but next year will be key. The Bucs can't afford another down campaign. Jackson would ensure they get back on track.
