Matt Flynn Rumors: Free Agent Superstar Makes Perfect Sense for Seahawks

Gabe ZaldivarMar 13, 2012

The Seattle Seahawks have their targets set on Packers' free agent Matt Flynn, and that should come as a sign that things are changing for the better in Emerald City.

Follow the yellow brick road and you will find that Seahawks owner Paul Allen is pulling levers and gadgets to make the machine go.

The Seahawks have cap space. Their owner is in it to win it, and has proved as much with the extension for Marshawn Lynch.

You can add a strong push for two of the top free agents on the market as reasons things are looking up for the usually maligned Seahawks.

Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times reports Mario Williams and Matt Flynn are next on the docket of players the Seahawks will go after.

"

There's a pretty strong buzz the Seahawks are going to pursue Williams aggressively. Could be Seattle chases Flynn, too, seeing him as the answer to its need for a long-term quarterback.

"

The question going forward is whether Tarvaris Jackson is truly the quarterback for the long haul. He had an inconsistent stay with the Vikings that was no doubt due to playing second fiddle to Brett Favre for a chunk of his time there.

His brief shining moment in Seattle fell flat last year as he passed for over 3,000 yards and had 14 touchdowns, but also threw 13 picks and had five fumbles.

With Flynn, they continue what is a "swinging for the fences" mentality. The Seahawks doled out a great deal of cash last year in free agency, but have clearly not been content with all their decisions.

They still need a franchise quarterback that can lead the team with consistent measures. There is no better option on the market not named Peyton Manning than the Packers backup that gave a stirring performance in his final game of the regular season.

Flynn looked like Aaron Rodgers as he tossed for 480 yards and six touchdowns against a stout Detroit Lions team.

The Seahawks are willing to put some big name players on the field, and would be far better with Matt Flynn than without him.
