4 Reasons Jrue Holiday Is a Better PG Than Jeremy Lin

Tim NguyenJun 1, 2018

When Jeremy Lin took over as starting point guard for the New York Knicks a little over a month ago, he nearly changed the basketball universe. He went 7-0 in his first seven starts and went 9-3 overall before losing six in a row. While he has come back to earth a little bit, he is still showing why he can be an good NBA player in the losses by putting up good numbers.

The Sixers' Jrue Holiday is another player who is on the rise again. Seemingly on the verge of an All-Star berth this season, Holiday was just a victim of too many point guards in the East. Perhaps next year will be his time.

Here are four reasons why Holiday is a better point guard than Lin.

Experience

1 of 4

Jrue Holiday was selected in the first round of the 2009 NBA draft whereas Lin was undrafted in 2010.

Holiday played with legendary guard Allen Iverson for parts of his rookie campaign, in which he learned from the veteran maestro.

That being said, Jrue has simply played longer and has had more experience in a starting role than Lin has. It gives him an advantage in terms of experience because he has seen all the great players and gone through all the teams before, unlike Lin.

Ball Security

2 of 4

One of the biggest flaws in Jeremy Lin's game is his turnovers. He has put up nearly 10 turnovers in some of the losses during his hot run but managed to win the game.

He has to be better at making decisions during his career if he wants to have a job in the league. Jrue Holiday has averaged no more than 2.7 turnovers per game in a season during his three-year NBA career. He has done a much better job at taking care of the ball.

Consistency

3 of 4

Jrue Holiday is more consistent player than Jeremy Lin. Over the long term, Lin may prove to be a better player, but in the past month, Lin has been 50-50 in terms of his production.

While the Knicks got off to a 9-3 start with Lin, they have lost six straight. His statistics have dropped since Carmelo came back into the lineup. Holiday, however, has adjusted his game to whoever hes playing with and that is a key skill to have. Holiday has proven he can be an NBA player and play with anyone.

Three Point Ability

4 of 4

Jrue Holiday is shooting the three-point shot at a rate of 39 percent this season over Lin, who is shooting only at 32 percent. Although his buzzer beater against the Raptors was thrilling, he had chances to win the game at Boston and Chicago but failed to ring the bell.

Jrue is more consistent at his threes than Lin, but Lin may be a better shooter in the long run.
