2012 NFL Free Agents: 5 More Players for the Jaguars to Consider
At 4 p.m. EST precisely, the phone lines and other lines of communication are going to get a little frazzled for NFL players, scouts, teams and general mangers.
The day we have all been waiting for has arrived.
Hallelujah! Welcome, NFL free agency.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, along with the other 31 teams in the league will be part of the game of musical chairs to land such stars as Mario Williams, Reggie Wayne, Marques Colston and Vincent Jackson.
The Jaguars currently have $36 million under the adjusted salary cap to spend on new contracts. While the front runners in free agency look like a great catch, there are other players to consider, especially at receiver, the Jaguars' most pressing need.
Here is a look at five free agents the team should consider today. While the waves of players moving may not be as fast as some hoped, with over 430 players available, there is always something worth catching in this pool of talent.
Brandon Lloyd
1 of 5The wide receiver could have been for the taking during the 2011 season.
Lloyd may be a good fit for this team, having worked with Jaguars receivers coach Jerry Sullivan when both of them were with the 49ers in 2005.
He finished the season with St. Louis after he was released by the Broncos.
Still, Lloyd is a bit of a risk. He is "opinionated" and was jettisoned right before Tim Tebow became the starter in Denver.
Laurent Robinson
2 of 5He was available in free agency and wound up signing with the Cowboys.
Good move for Dallas as Robinson had his best season as a pro.
Robinson has already played for three NFL teams. The Jaguars could use his athleticism and his pass-catching ability.
Maybe a long-term deal makes him think about moving east.
Jared Gaither
3 of 5He played in Kansas City and San Diego last season.
He is a big, strong tackle who looked every bit the part at times in California. He needs a place to call home.
Gaither played for three different teams in three seasons. The Jaguars have a need for him if Eben Britton does not come back from injury.
Jason Jones
4 of 5The former Titans player can play defensive end and tackle, which could help the Jaguars with their limited defensive linemen.
Jones knows a thing or two about playing against Jacksonville, having seen them twice a year in the AFC South.
There is still a chance he goes back to his home team.
Aaron Ross
5 of 5He is a solid starter for the Giants, who still could find his way back to Tom Coughlin and New York.
Look for teams to look at Ross who need help in the secondary. The Jaguars may not be able to re-sign Dwight Lowery.
This could be a good move for the team who needs a good player, but not he is not an elite player.
