NBA Trade Rumors: Warriors Can't Let Stephen Jackson Keep Them from Andrew Bogut

Richard LangfordMar 13, 2012

If trying to temper a broken relationship with former player Stephen Jackson is the only thing keeping the Warriors from pulling off a trade for Bucks center Andrew Bogut, they should welcome Jackson back with open arms.

The Warriors are desperate to add a center, and Bogut would fit the bill. At 27, Bogut is entering the prime of his career. He is not going to set the world on fire on the offensive end, but he is a force in the paint.

He is a solid rebounder and an excellent shot blocker. Bogut does have an extensive injury history, and he might not be able to play for the remainder of the season. However, the Warriors would be making this move for the future and not for this season.

Bogut is also readily available.

Michael Lee of the Washington Post reported the following:

"

According to a league source, Bogut has requested to be moved, from the Bucks last week.

"

The Warriors are definitely interested in adding Bogut. Marcus Thompson III of the Contra Costa Times:

"

According to team sources, the Warriors are preparing to make a play for Milwaukee’s center.

"

The Bucks aren't just going to give Bogut away though. Marc Stein, of ESPN, tweeted:

"

GSW pursuit of Bogut not w/out obstacles. MIL wants Stephen Jackson added to any deal. Would Dubs bring him back, @timkawakami? #rhetorical

Neither Jackson nor the Warriors would be thrilled about reuniting. However, Jackson is only under contract through next season.

They can make a bad situation work in the name of bettering the team. Jackson could also add some punch to the lineup, which they would need, given the fact that the Warriors would likely be trading Monta Ellis to get Bogut.

And if things really turn sour, they can just cut Jackson and eat his salary for a season.

This is a team that has few options or paths to adding a center. They can't let old grudges and ill feelings keep them from acquiring Bogut.
