The Not-So-Great NBA All-Star Weekend

Thomas JasmineJan 12, 2009

This is a time in NBA where the fans get excited.

It’s midway through the season, everyone is either cheering along their favorite team, or accepting the fact that they're not gonna make the playoffs this year.

And what else can spark an NBA fan more than the NBA All-Star Weekend?

The excitement, lights, screaming fans, and don't forget the biggest NBA stars in the league; past and present.

What could ever go wrong?

It’s the same thing every year.

Don't get me wrong, I, and many of my friends, look forward to these weekends where we watch nothing but TNT to see the best of the best.

But it’s always the same thing.

We see some guys dunking, mostly stuff we seen in recent years or things too hard for them to complete themselves.

We see men shoot from the three-point line 30 times and missing 20 of them. How Great!!!

We see stars and celebrities go head-to-head where they make about 8 points a quarter and we always realize who will win at the final moments.

We see a Basketball player from the 60's, a woman, and a guy we see all the time, shoot around to see who can do it fastest.

To top it all off we see Rookies vs. Sophomores, like a game just to beat up on the Rooks of the game, and we see the same superstars from last year’s contest except for one or two changes.

The experience is enjoyable but it’s all the same. The NBA puts on a new show with the same old story.

I just would like to see something different.

What if they had an All-Star game that included both women and men?  What amazement basketball viewers across the world would have if they saw Lisa Leslie dunk on Kobe Bryant.

Or what if there was a game that involved the top high school players and college players in the nation to take a look at the future of the NBA.

Just something that would shake up the flow of the All-Star Weekend and give us a little more to watch than the year before.

Tell me what you think or even come up with ideas that would bring back the life of the NBA All-Star Weekend.
