March Madness 2012 Predictions: Kentucky Wildcats Guaranteed Title
The NCAA Tournament was nice enough to hold a big dance to celebrate the eventual championship of the Kentucky Wildcats, and 63 other teams will be nothing more than bystanders.
This will yet be another maddening exhibition of upsets, underdogs and teams being bestowed with the label of Cinderella.
Amid the usual aplomb of the underrated team, there will be one favorite that will fail to go down to the rising tide of lesser teams.
Yes, there may be a great many shocks and surprises this month, but none will feature Kentucky, who are simply the best team in the nation, and will remain so until they hoist the title.
Dominating Front Line
Kentucky can simply overpower you with a front of Anthony Davis, Terrence Jones and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Each one is over 6'7" and 230 pounds.
Kentucky normally features a star-studded cast, but this season has been ridiculous, highlighted by their fabulous forwards.
This isn't to say the backcourt isn't good. Doron Lamb may be one of the more exciting players to feature in the tourney, and you can't sleep on Marquis Teague who is vital when he takes care of the ball.
All eyes are on the big men on this team though.
Defense and Rebounding
Kentucky is unrelenting in the paint and can hit the boards better than most. It will take a team that goes on a ridiculous hot streak from distance to impose some fear in this team.
You simply can't rely on driving the lane against some of the best defenders in the country. Their 8.8 blocks per game is tops in the nation.
Anthony Davis
This, of course, brings us to the man of the season and the name you will hear a great deal of this month in Anthony Davis.
Davis lead the team in points, rebounds and blocks, averaging 14.4 points, 9.8 boards and 4.7 blocks per game.
There is no one player that can contend with his size and ability, making Kentucky hard to deal with on offense.
Region
No region is a cake walk, but coming out of the south is a blessing for Kentucky that will get some momentum headed into the Final Four.
Their most vaunted foe in the region is Duke that is an inconsistent mess this season and a nightmare on defense.
Don't look for an upset scare prior to the deeper portions of the tournament.
