Peyton Manning: Potential Draft Effects of Reported Planned Visit to Tennessee
Over the weekend, Peyton Manning spent time with the Arizona Cardinals brass and according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Manning plans to visit two more teams:
"Peyton Manning will meet w Dolphins coach Joe Philbin & Titans coach Mike Munchak during next 3 days, scheduled away from team facilities.
"
Despite an earlier report from ESPN's Adam Schefter that Manning would decide his new destination within a week, it doesn't appear that we are going to get resolution of this situation anytime soon. Matt Flynn may get stolen by Cleveland or Seattle from under the Dolphins noses.
I speculated earlier on how the draft would be affected if the Cardinals or Dolphins landed Manning. What about if Titans defy the odds to bring him back to the state where he played his college ball?
The Titans would presumably dangle Matt Hasselbeck in trades to a quarterback-poor team and increase the supply of temporary answers at QB, while decreasing the supply of elite or potentially elite options. Their draft may then take on more of a "win now" angle, with holes at defensive end and interior offensive line taking on even more urgency.
Jake Locker's starting gig would be delayed indefinitely, so perhaps a team like Miami or Seattle would be willing to put together a blockbuster deal to make him their answer at quarterback. Then Tennessee could add a top 12 pick to their draft haul this year (plus more).
