AFC North Free Agency Update: Bengals, Steelers Tender Offers to Own Players

Andrea HangstJun 7, 2018

With the start of free agency coming at 4:00 pm ET tomorrow, teams have started to make offers to their own free agents.

In the AFC North, both the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed or given tenders to a number of free agents.

The Steelers gave six of their free agents RFA tenders: wide receiver Mike Wallace, cornerback Keenan Lewis, safety Ryan Mundy, offensive guards Doug Legursky and Ramon Foster and tight end David Johnson.

Of those six, only Wallace is in danger of leaving the team.

Wallace is one of the biggest names in a deep class of free agent wide receivers this year.

Though his asking price is high—he'll need a front-loaded contract likely worth around $9 million in 2012 to be lured away from Pittsburgh and the new team will need to give up their first-round draft pick in return—there's a good chance he will receive contract offers from at least the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers.

In Cincinnati, the Bengals gave a contract extension to fullback Chris Pressley and gave exclusive-right free agent tenders to running back Cedric Peerman, linebacker Vincent Rey and defensive tackle Nick Hayden.

There's no word yet if the Bengals will be able to re-sign veteran safety Reggie Nelson, the team's top free agent.

Even if they do make him an offer, Nelson is rumored to still hit the free agent market, with the Miami Dolphins having the greatest chance to land him.
